Emerging Models of Higher Education and Their Strategic Potential – Carlow

An in-person presentation and workshop by Brian Mulligan

Sponsored by Feedback Fruits

SETU Carlow, 3pm Monday Sep 8th, 2025

Digital transformation in education goes far beyond simply adding technology to existing practices for greater efficiency or effectiveness. As in many other fields, the real potential lies in reimagining what we do and how we do it. This workshop explores innovative models of higher education that have become increasingly viable thanks to advances in learning technologies. These models address the dual challenges of enriching the on-campus learning experience and increasing access for those unable to attend traditional programs. Additionally, they offer solutions for overcoming capacity limitations and reducing per-student costs.

While many of these approaches can be implemented at the subject or module level, they deliver greater impact when adopted across entire programmes. Ultimately, genuine digital transformation may require integrating these models into institutional strategy and scaling them system-wide.

During this event, we will examine the urgency for digital transformation in higher education teaching, explore promising new models, and assess their potential institutional impact. We will also discuss practical challenges to large-scale adoption, enabling participants to evaluate which approaches might offer the greatest value in their unique contexts.

Note: This workshop has been condensed into 1 hour to suit the busy schedule of educators at this time of year.  However, Brian will remain on for a further hour to facilitate discussion and answer questions.
